A second life. Coins and medals in european applied art

23,00 € tax incl.

Coins as a universal means of exchange have been known from ancient times – they were used in Ancient Rome and Greece as well as in old China, they were known to the peoples of the Eastern world and barbaric tribes of Europe. One epoch superseded another, coins were melted and minted again, but sometimes talented craftsmen gave old coins second life. In the catalogue of the exhibition you will find some very rare pieces from the museum collection – decorations, signs and other handicraft items made of coins and medals. It is the only form in which many of them have been preserved. These unique works of art could be of considerable interest to both numismatists and connoisseurs of history. The Hermitage catalogues are always separate editions with splendid illustrations and succinct annotations.
